I just picked up a Fujifilm X-E5 and I'm looking for lens recommendations. I'm mainly interested in street photography and portraits, with some occasional landscape work. My budget is around $800-1200 for one or two lenses. I've been eyeing the 35mm f/2 and 56mm f/1.2, but I'm open to other suggestions. What are your go-to lenses for this camera? Any third-party options worth considering? Thanks in advance for your help!

Here's a comprehensive guide to the best lenses for the Fujifilm X-E5, covering various photography needs from everyday shooting to specialized applications.

Kit Recommendations
The X-E5 pairs excellently with the XF 23mm f/2.8 R WR pancake lens, creating a compact, weather-resistant package perfect for street photography and travel. This combination offers 35mm equivalent focal length, ideal for everyday storytelling. The XF 27mm f/2.8 WR serves as another excellent everyday carry option.

Prime Lens Essentials
The XF 35mm F2 R WR stands out as the must-have first prime lens, offering exceptional sharpness and versatility for street, architecture, and product photography. For X100VI-like experience with lens flexibility, consider the XF 23mm f/2 R WR. Portrait enthusiasts will appreciate the XF 50mm f/2 for intimate moments.

Versatile Zoom Options
The XF 16-50mm F2.8-4.8 R LM WR serves as the ultimate "do-anything" lens, while the XF 16-80mm F4 R OIS WR excels for video work when combined with the X-E5's IBIS system.

If you're looking for something more versatile, I'd highly recommend the XF 16-50mm F2.8-4.8 R LM WR - it's a do-anything lens. It originally launched as the Fujifilm X-T50's kit lens and pairs extremely well with the camera. It's a general purpose zoom lens suitable for landscapes, architecture, street, travel, thanks to its 16-50mm variable focal length. Yeah, it's a bit bigger than the pancake lenses, but its autofocus is quick and fantastic, and the photos come out sharp too. The lens is quick to focus and the photos it takes are extremely sharp.

^ This. Also, im literally in the same situation right now! Just picked up my X-E5 and i am obsessing over the technical specs vs the actual cost. Its so hard to find that perfect balance of high-end reliability and budget friendly prices... i honestly spent like three hours yesterday just looking at resolution charts and distortion data lol. Heres what im currently struggling with too:

  • Finding a portrait lens with pro-level MTF scores that fits into a sub 500 dollar budget.
  • Deciding if the Viltrox 75mm f/1.2 AF Fujifilm X is too big for the X-E body even though the optics and bokeh are literally fantastic for the price.
  • Trying to find a reliable wide angle with minimal flare that wont bankrupt me before my next trip... I seriously love the form factor of this body but picking the right glass is proving to be a challenge!! Let me know if you find any insane deals because im looking for the exact same things.

Compact street setup

  • XF 27mm f/2.8 WR: the perfect pancake for an X‑E body. Tiny, WR, now with an aperture ring. Great for EDC and street.
  • XF 23mm f/2 and XF 35mm f/2: the “Fujicrons.” Fast enough, quick AF, small, WR. Pair one with the 27 and you’re set.
  • If you like a slightly wider look: XF 18mm f/2 is older but has lovely rendering and keeps the kit pocketable.
