Just got the Lumix S5 IIX! What's a reliable SD card for 4K video recording? Aiming for something around $100.
Two years with my Lexar 2000X UHS-II SD card. Never has any problems.
For the S5 IIX and smooth 4K, grab a SanDisk Extreme Pro UHS-II V90. Over the years, I've found the sustained write speeds crucial. Think of it like your car's torque curve – you need consistent power, not just peak numbers. Prevents dropped frames like a good suspension prevents wheel hop. V60 is your minimum; V90 overkill unless you're doing 6K.
Can vouch for this
Heads up, the S5 IIX pushes data! I had issues with slower cards. Look for V60 or V90 rated cards. Angelbird AV Pro is good, but unfortunately, not as good as expected. Always test extensively!
Unfortunately, ProGrade failed after 2 years. Stick with Sony Tough; worth the extra $30.
Lexar's Professional cards are decent options, often cheaper than Sandisk Extreme Pro for similar performance. From a market perspective, you're paying a premium for Sandisk's brand recognition. Consider Lexar; the savings add up if you buy multiple cards. Just verify sustained write speeds match your S5 IIX's requirements. Do some test recordings before a big shoot!
Sandisk Extreme Pro's solid, but format it in-camera before each shoot. Prevents file corruption headaches later.
