Looking for a landscape lens for my S1R Mark II. Any recommendations for wide angle under $1500?

I totally agree with the idea of looking at the used market for these things, especially since L-mount gear can be pricey. I've only been shooting landscapes for a little while now, so I'm still learning, but I spent a ton of time looking at the technical specs for the S1R II sensor. Honestly, you should definitely check out the Panasonic LUMIX S PRO 16-35mm f/4. It fits right in your budget—usually around $1,000 to $1,200—and because it's an 'S PRO' lens, it handles the high resolution really well. I mean, the f/4 might seem kind of slow compared to the f/2.8 stuff everyone always talks about, but for landscapes you're usually stopped down to f/8 or f/11 anyway, right? What I've noticed from owning it is that it takes standard 77mm screw-on filters. Dealing with those giant bulbous front elements or special rear-mount filters on the Sigmas seems like a huge headache when you're out in the wind and dirt. It’s also way lighter than the Art lenses - which is basically a lifesaver if you're hiking for a few hours. Just my beginner thoughts, but the edge-to-edge sharpness is seriously impressive for the price!

I've been using the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art on my S1R. Excellent sharpness across the frame, especially stopped down a bit. Distortion is well-controlled in-camera. You can find them used around $1200. Solid performer for the price; it works great for my landscape stuff.

Consider the Sigma 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM Art. Tack sharp corners, even wide open.

Hey! Wide angle's fun. Instead of chasing super-wide, consider a used Panasonic 20-60mm. They're usually under $600, versatile, and you get a decent range. Invest saved money in a good polarizing filter – crucial for landscape! Just my 2 cents.

Consider Sigma; check filter thread size. Secure filters prevent glare and shattered glass on the road.

Before committing, check used Sigma lenses. Market's flooded since mirrorless gained traction. Lenses originally $1800 are popping up around $1200, offering significant savings. Be careful to inspect thoroughly for fungus or damage. Might want to consider a reputable seller with a return policy.
