Top L-mount zoom lens for video and hybrid shooting?

I’m trying to narrow down a “do-it-all” L-mount zoom for video + hybrid shooting and I’m getting a bit lost in the options. I shoot on an L-mount body with AF for talking-head clips, but I also grab stills on the same outings (street + travel). I’d love something that doesn’t noticeably breathe when racking focus, has smooth/quiet AF, and decent stabilization (or at least plays nicely with IBIS). Range-wise I’m thinking either a 24-70-ish or 24-105-ish, and I’d like to keep it under about $1,500 if possible. What’s your top L-mount zoom pick for video + hybrids, and why?

For your situation, I’d suggest starting with the “boring but works” pick: Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II Art (L-Mount). I’ve been using the earlier Sigma 24-70 DG DN for a while on an L-mount body for talking-head + travel, and honestly… I’m happy. AF is quiet enough that it’s never been a problem on-camera, and it plays nice with IBIS. It’s also a solid hybrid range (24-70 is just easy mode for street + b-roll).

On the video side: focus breathing is there a bit (most stills zooms do it), but it’s not the “whoa the frame is zooming” vibe unless you’re doing super obvious racks at close focus. If breathing is your #1 thing, I’d be cautious with ANY photo zoom and test your own body’s breathing compensation (if it has it), because that can be the difference between “fine” and “annoying.”

If you want more travel convenience and fewer lens swaps, Sigma 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM Art (L-Mount) is kinda the practical pick (extra reach + OS), but it’s an older design and, imo, feels more “stills-first.”

So yeah: if you can swing it under $1.5k, I’d go Sigma 24-70 DG DN (or the II if you find a deal), and call it a day. good luck!

Seconding the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II Art (L-Mount) rec — it’s kinda the “just works” choice for hybrid, and f/2.8 helps a ton for talking-head. If you want more reach + less lens swapping, Sigma 24-105mm F4 DG OS HSM Art (L-Mount) is practical (has OS, nice for video), but it’s bigger and f/4. And if breathing bugs you, I’d at least consider Panasonic Lumix S 24-105mm F4 Macro O.I.S. (L-Mount)… plays really nice with Lumix IBIS imo tho

Sooo yeah, +1 to the Sigma recs above — I’ve run the 24-70-ish route for years and it’s the safest “no surprises” setup for paid-ish talking heads. If you want a different vibe tho: Panasonic Lumix S 24-105mm F4 Macro O.I.S. (L-Mount) is boring in the best way. OIS+IBIS plays nice, AF is quiet, and the extra reach means less swapping (safer = less dust on sensor). Breathing isn’t zero, but it’s not distracting. I’m happy with it for travel, honestly...
