I’ve recently jumped into the Leica system with an M10 and I'm looking for the perfect 35mm daily driver. I’m torn between the classic Summicron-M ASPH and modern gems like the Voigtländer APO-Lanthar. I prioritize edge-to-edge sharpness and micro-contrast. Which 35mm currently offers the best technical performance on a digital M body?

Seconding that! For peak technical performance: - Zeiss Distagon T* 35mm f/1.4 ZM: Best micro-contrast.
- Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH. (FLE): Sharp but pricey. The Zeiss is basically unbeatable for value.

Sooo, for your situation, I’ve actually been super happy with a couple of budget-friendly gems that lowkey hold their own against those heavy hitters. I know the Lanthar and Cron were mentioned, but if ur prioritizing technical edge-to-edge sharpness and micro-contrast without going broke, here is what I recommend: - Voigtländer 35mm f/2.0 Ultron Vintage Line Aspherical VM Type II: This thing is a beast. It’s incredibly sharp even wide open and retails for around $750. I’ve used it for a year now and the build quality is top-notch—no issues with the rangefinder coupling drifting, which is a big deal for mechanical safety and long-term accuracy.
- Zeiss C Biogon T* 35mm f/2.8 ZM: If micro-contrast is your main goal, this is basically the gold standard. It’s sharper than many faster lenses and costs about $860 new. The T* coating works reallyyy well to keep contrast high even in tricky lighting, which protects your shots from washing out or losing detail. I mean, I was honestly skeptical about going third-party on an M10, but the results are just... wow. The Biogon in particular has virtually zero distortion, which is basically impossible to find at this price point. Plus, these lenses are tiny, so they dont block ur viewfinder frame lines. It’s such a relief to find gear that works well and stays reliable without constant shop visits for calibration. Totally satisfied with these over the pricier Leica glass!! Good luck with the hunt 👍

Been thinking about your quest for technical perfection. Honestly, have you checked if your M10's rangefinder is perfectly calibrated at infinity and 1m yet? Before you drop thousands, I'd wanna know if you've done a DIY focus test using Live View to see if your body is actually hitting the mark. Even the 'sharpest' glass looks like mush if the flange distance or RF cam is a hair off. I'm a total DIY nerd, and I've found that shimming lenses yourself can unlock performance that people usually pay pros hundreds for. If you want a technical masterpiece that isn't the usual suspects, look into the Konica 35mm f/2 UC-Hexanon. It's got incredible micro-contrast, but because its an older lens, it usually needs a professional CLA to calibrate it specifically for a digital sensor's tighter tolerances. Once its matched to your M10, the edge-to-edge performance is gonna blow you away. TL;DR: Calibration > Brand name. Get your gear perfectly matched (DIY or pro) to actually see that micro-contrast your after.

Honestly, I had issues with the Leica Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH.... it was kinda soft in the corners compared to what I expected, unfortunately. The APO is basically perfect edge-to-edge with insane micro-contrast. Idk if u mind the size, but technically it’s the best. So yeah, total beast. gl!
