just snagged a mint M10-P for a street trip to NYC this weekend and I'm honestly terrified of scuffing that brass bottom plate or the corners. usually I go naked but this one is too pristine. between Arte di Mano and Oberwerth, which leather case actually stays tight and doesnt trap grit? need it shipped by Wednesday...
Building on the earlier suggestion, I have unfortunately found that standard leather cases lose their shape, which basically leads to grit getting trapped. I switched to the Gariz Design Leica M10 Genuine Leather Half Case with Metal Base because the construction is way more rigid.
Agreed, unfortunately my boutique cases like those still trapped sand.
I used to go naked until I got a nasty scratch on a trip to Chicago. Be careful with loose cases because grit gets in and ruins the finish. Honestly, I would suggest the Arte di Mano Half Case for Leica M10 because the fit is insanely tight. It stays put... might want to check shipping tho since theyre often custom. The Oberwerth Half Case for Leica M10 might be faster for your trip.
TL;DR: Get the TP Original Leather Half Case for Leica M10 and spend the saved cash on your trip. I've been pretty disappointed with those super expensive boutique options. Spent way too much on a custom one a few years back and dirt still got in, leaving tiny marks on the baseplate anyway. It feels like you're paying for the name more than actual protection. For a weekend trip to NYC, you really dont need to drop $400 on a piece of leather. The TP Original Leather Half Case for Leica M10 is what I use now. It's solid leather and fits snugly enough that it doesnt shift around. Ngl, regardless of what brand you buy, grit is gonna get in there if you're out all day. My advice is to go cheap and just use the savings for a better lens or a fancy dinner. Just remember to pop the case off every night to wipe the dust out... that's the only way to actually keep the brass mint.
Look, Ive been through the ringer with cases since my M9 days. For your NYC trip, you might want to look at Kaza Deluxe Leather Half Case for Leica M10. I bought one on a whim a few years back when I was in a rush and I am still using it today. It holds its shape way better than the softer ones that eventually sag and let dust in.
