Which thumb grips are recommended for Leica Q3 owners?

I recently picked up a Leica Q3 and, while it’s a dream to use, I’m finding the ergonomics a bit slippery for one-handed shooting. I really want to add a thumb grip for better stability, but I’m torn between the official Leica version and third-party options like Match Technical or Haoge. My main concern is finding one that feels solid without blocking access to the rear buttons or the top adjustment dial. I’m also curious about the finish—does the black paint on the third-party ones actually match the Q3 body? I’d love to hear from anyone who has tested a few. Which thumb grip strikes the best balance between comfort and build quality for you?

Just saw this thread and +1 to what was said earlier about the hot shoe stress! I’ve seen way too many people treat their thumb rest like a handle and end up with loose rails after a few months... seriously, be careful with that leverage. If you’re looking for the best bang for your buck, I’d suggest the Haoge THB-Q3B Thumb Grip for Leica Q3. It’s usually around $45, and the build quality is surprisingly technical for the price. It uses tiny silicone pads to prevent the metal from rubbing against the body, which totally fixes that scratching issue mentioned in reply #1. I've found the black paint is like a 95% match; maybe a tiny bit more matte, but you really gotta squint to see it. Another solid budget option is the JJC TA-Q3 Thumbs Up Grip for Leica Q3. It’s even cheaper—usually under $35 iirc. It’s molded specifically so it doesn't block that rear dial or the play button at all. Just a heads up: whatever you pick, make sure it has a rubber interface. Metal-on-metal is a recipe for disaster on a $6k camera lol. gl!

Late to the party but I went through this exact dilemma last year. I’ve been shooting with these systems for a decade now and honestly, I always try to find the best value because official gear prices are just... wow. Since the official Leica and Match Technical Thumbs Up ones were already mentioned—and they’re definitely pricey—I decided to test some budget alternatives to see if they actually held up. Haoge THB-Q3B Thumb Rest for Leica Q3 vs JJC TA-Q3 Thumb Up Grip for Leica Q3 The Haoge is actually really decent for the price. It’s solid aluminum and doesn't block the top dial at all, which was my biggest worry. The black paint isn't a 100% perfect match—it’s a bit more matte than the Q3 body—but honestly, after a week you don't even notice. The JJC option is even cheaper, but it felt a bit flimsy compared to the Haoge... just didn't have that 'pro' feel. i guess it depends on how much you care about the 'heft'. In my experience, the Haoge hits that sweet spot for budget vs quality. Just be careful with the hot shoe tension!! 👍

Sooo I totally get the struggle. The Q3 is a masterpiece but basically feels like a bar of soap when you're shooting one-handed. ⚠️ **Warning:** Watch out for grips that sit too flush against the camera body. I've seen some third-party options that actually *scratch* the finish inside the hot shoe or, even worse, block the rear command dial. If you cant move that dial freely, the grip is basically useless for fast shooting. In my experience, here is how they stack up:
- **Leica Official:** It's honestly perfect and the finish is a 100% match, but it costs a literal fortune for a piece of metal.
- **Match Technical:** These are the gold standard for many. Ngl, the brass feels great and the ergonomics are spot on, tho they're still pricey.
- **Haoge:** This is what I currently use. It's super affordable and the black paint is like a 95% match. You wont notice the difference unless you're staring at it with a loupe. Honestly, I recommend the Haoge. It's solid, doesn't block my buttons, and the value for money is just better. gl!

Hmm, I've had a different experience. I've seen fixed grips actualy loosen hot shoes over time from the constant leverage... risky tbh. - IDS Works Folding Thumb Rest for Leica Q3: Folds away (pro) but it's pricey (con).
- Lim's Design Leica Q3 Half Case: Amazing grip/safety (pro) but adds some bulk (con). TL;DR: Get a modular rest or half case to avoid damaging ur top plate. Third-party paint wont match perfectly anyway.
