Which compact prime lens offers the sharpest image for M4/3?

I need the sharpest compact prime for my Japan trip next month. My budget is $400-ish. I read the PL 15mm is great but then some say the 20mm f1.7 is sharper even if the AF sucks. My logic was 15mm for street, but I'm just stressed about soft edges... which one actually wins for pure sharpness?

Ive used the Panasonic Lumix G 20mm f/1.7 II ASPH in Tokyo and was very satisfied. It works well because the MTF charts dont lie, plus its a total bargain.

Found this late but I just had to chime in! I used the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH for my last Tokyo run and loved it! Its way faster at focusing than the 20mm. Seriously amazing. It captured every detail in Shinjuku Gyoen.

  • Buy it used to save some yen for food.
  • Shoot at f/4 for the absolute sharpest results across the entire frame!
