Just picked up a Nikon Z30 and I’m trying to figure out the best lens for vlogging. I’ll mostly be filming handheld at arm’s length indoors (small room) and sometimes walking outside, so I’m worried about getting a wide enough view without crazy distortion. Autofocus needs to be reliable for face tracking, and I’d really prefer something with stabilization since the Z30 doesn’t have IBIS. Budget is around $500–$700 (used is fine), and I’m open to Nikon or third-party Z-mount options. What lens would you recommend for the Nikon Z30 for vlogging, and why?

Ok so for your situation, I’d straight up go Nikon NIKKOR Z DX 12-28mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ VR. It’s wide enough for small-room arm’s-length stuff without forcing you into “fisheye face” territory, and the VR + power zoom is honestly the safety-first combo on a Z30 (no IBIS = walking footage gets sketchy fast). Also, face/eye AF stays locked pretty reliably in my experience, which matters way more than chasing f/2.8 for vlogs. Tip: try to live around ~14–18mm indoors, and only hit 12mm when you really need it. If you want, share if you’re using digital stab too.

Ok so I vlog w/ a Z30 too and I’m honestly super happy with Nikon NIKKOR Z DX 12-28mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ VR — used like $250–$350, wide enough indoors, VR helps a ton, AF is solid, no crazy distortion unless you go full 12mm.

Ok so same… when I first got my Z30 I tried a couple non-stabilized wide lenses and ngl the indoor arm’s-length stuff was fine, but walking outside was literally jelly-cam. I ended up sticking with a stabilized wide zoom most days and just staying a bit off the widest end so faces didn’t look goofy. Also learned: VR + digital stab together is nice but watch the crop in small rooms. anyway hope that helps ur decision a bit

Seconding that DX wide zoom w/ VR. Also: • stick ~14–18mm indoors to dodge wonky faces • turn on digital stab for walking (cropped but smoother) • in $500–$700, any stabilized Nikon/Sigma/Tamron wide zoom is pretty safe tbh
