Hey! Looking for a tripod for my Ricoh GR IV. Mostly street photography, so needs to be compact and lightweight. Any recommendations for something that'll fit in a small bag and be sturdy enough for low light?
I recommended the Manfrotto Befree Advanced Camera Tripod. It's lightweight and easy to use.
Building on the earlier suggestion, I've honestly had nothing but issues with those standard plastic mini tripods. Most of them look fine in the store but unfortunately the tolerances are way too loose for long exposures on a GR IV. I ended up going the DIY route because I was tired of the ball heads creeping mid-shot.
I would suggest the smaller and lighter offerings from established lines. Sirui, Benro, maybe MeFoto. happen to have a Sirui AM-124-US - that's the blue US model. I'd use it for a GRiii - because I have it but it seems to work for me for a camera of that sort. Since the GR IV maintains the same compact form factor as the III, these recommendations still hold true. The Sirui models offer good build quality without breaking the bank.
I've used a Manfrotto Pixi Mini tripod with my GR series for years. Super compact, fits anywhere. It's around $30, sturdy enough for most situations, and I haven't needed anything else.
Street shooting, eh? Forget the legs! Grab a Platypod Extreme. Technically, it's a plate, not a tripod, but it's tiny and clamps anywhere. You'll need a good ball head (check Arca-Swiss standard), but it's way more versatile than fiddling with tripod legs in tight spots. Trust me, I've wrestled with tripods enough while shooting cars at dusk to know.
Check used Manfrotto Pixi! Super compact, usually under $30. Amazing value for the size!
