What is the most versatile travel lens for the Z6 that wont break my back? Honestly im so fed up with carrying around a bag full of glass and switching lenses every five minutes while trying to enjoy my trip in Japan. I missed a great shot of a street performer in Kyoto today because I was busy swapping my 50mm for the zoom and it just killed my mood for the rest of the day.

I need one lens to do it all for a budget of around $900.

  • light weight is a must
  • sharp enough for landscape
  • handles some street photography

Should I just grab the 24-200mm or is the 24-120mm f4 better even with less reach? I just want to stop worrying about gear and actually look at the scenery...

Are you shooting much at night? I would suggest being careful with variable apertures.

Man, I totally get the frustration. Swapping lenses in the middle of a busy street is the worst. If you want to stay under that $900 mark, the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR is probably your best bet. It's a decent option for travelers who value convenience.

  • Reach: Having 200mm is a game changer for candid street shots.
  • Portability: It's way lighter than carrying a bag of primes.
  • Price: You can usually snag one for about $800. The Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S is a stellar lens, but it's often pricier and you lose that extra reach. For Japan, having the extra zoom helps when you're trying to capture details on temples from far away. It isn't quite as sharp as the S-line glass, but for landscapes it works just fine. If you find a used Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S, that's even cheaper, but you'll definitely miss the zoom.
