ive been staring at reviews for weeks now and my head is honestly spinning. i just picked up the x-t5 for a trip to japan next month but i cant decide on a lens to save my life. i read that the 18-55mm is the classic choice but then a bunch of people on reddit said it doesnt resolve the 40mp sensor well enough and that sounds like a disaster for my landscape shots. then i looked at the 16-80mm f4 because of the reach and weather sealing which would be great for rainy days in kyoto but half the reviews say the corners are super soft.

im really anxious about this because i only have about $900 left in my budget after buying the body and i dont want to carry three different primes around and be that person constantly swapping lenses while my partner waits for me. i need something that can do it all but still looks sharp.

here is what im looking for specifically:

  • weather sealing is pretty important for peace of mind
  • needs to be light enough to carry for 12 hours a day
  • mostly street and landscape but i want to take food pics too
  • budget is under $900 and i need to buy it in the next two weeks

should i just get the 18-120mm f4 or is that more for video? or maybe the tamron 17-70? im just worried the tamron is way too bulky for a smallish body like the x-t5...

id go with the Fujifilm XF 16-80mm f4 R OIS WR.

The one I got first was a total disappointment. Honestly, it wasn't as sharp as expected for those 40mp landscapes.

  • excessive weight
  • soft resolution My current setup works better.
