I’m putting together a lightweight Sony mirrorless travel kit (mostly city walking + a bit of hiking) and I’m realizing accessories matter as much as lenses. I’m trying to keep everything compact and reliable, but I don’t want to get stuck with dead batteries or no safe way to carry the camera. Right now I’ve got a small sling bag, two batteries, and a basic SD card, but I’m unsure what’s actually “must-have” vs. nice-to-have. Are there specific accessories you’d consider essential for Sony mirrorless travel (strap, charger/power bank setup, filters, cleaning kit, weather protection, etc.), especially if you’re trying to stay minimal?

Ok so for minimal + safe travel, I’d do A vs B vs C:
- **A: power** → Anker 511 Charger (Nano 3) USB-C 30W ($20-ish) + Anker 335 Power Bank PowerCore 20000mAh USB-C ($35-45). Pros: reliable, charges phone too. Cons: a bit heavier.
- **B: storage** → 2x Samsung PRO Plus SDXC 128GB UHS-I V30 U3 ($15-25 each). Pros: redundancy. Cons: none lol.
- **C: protection** → OP/TECH USA Rainsleeve (2-Pack) ($8-12) + Zeiss Lens Wipes 200 Count ($10). Best choice: A + B… dead battery/data loss sucks, unfortunately

Seconding the strap tip—stock straps suck. My “saved the trip” add-ons: Anker PowerCore 10000 USB-C 10000mAh Power Bank + Nitecore UCN2 USB Dual-Slot Charger for Sony NP-FW50/NP-FZ100 (charge anywhere), and a cheap rain sleeve like OP/TECH Rainsleeve (2-Pack) for surprise weather.

Ok so last year I did a week of city-walking with my Sony mirrorless and I was sooo happy I kept it minimal… but I still missed a couple things lol. Here’s what I’d call “must-have” (I think…):

- A comfy strap or wrist strap (the stock one drove me nuts). I like Peak Design-style quick adjust stuff, but any comfy one works.
- USB-C dual-battery charger + a small power bank. Not sure why, but wall outlets are always weirdly inconvenient when traveling, right?
- 2nd/3rd SD card (smaller cards spread risk). IIRC I’ve only had one fail, but it happens.
- Tiny rocket blower + microfiber cloth. Skip liquids unless you need em.
- Cheap rain cover or even a zip bag + rubber band… saved me on a hike.

Lesson learned: power + safe carry > everything else. gl!

I’m gonna go against the grain here and disagree with the folks suggesting rain sleeves and carrying three different chargers. Honestly, if youre trying to be truly minimal, those "just in case" items end up being dead weight in your bag. I’ve been shooting with these bodies for years, and long-term, what realy matters is protecting the gear from daily wear during transit. Instead of fancy covers, just grab a high-quality UV or protector filter from B+W or Hoya and leave it on the lens 24/7. It’s way better for peace of mind when you're out hiking or in a crowded city, right? Also, look into getting a simple baseplate or a small grip from SmallRig. Just get any of their basic ones—it adds almost zero bulk but protects the bottom of the camera from scratches when you’re setting it down on concrete or rocks. Way more practical for long-term ownership than a plastic bag you'll probably never use, tbh.

For your situation, I’d keep it *boring* but reliable. Stuff I actually ended up needing (unfortunately):
- OP/TECH USA Utility Strap - Sling or Joby UltraFit Hand Strap with Padding (cheap, comfy, won’t wreck your neck)
- Sony BC-QZ1 Battery Charger for NP-FZ100 (faster + less sketchy than random USB chargers)
- SanDisk Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I 128GB V30 U3 (one “good” card beats 3 meh ones)
- Giottos Rocket Air Blaster Large + a couple microfiber cloths
- Think Tank Photo Emergency Rain Cover Medium for surprise weather

What’s your camera body/battery type (FZ100 vs FW50)?

+1 to the power/storage points above—also grab a SanDisk or Sony spare SD, a tiny K&F Concept cleaning kit, and a cheap rain sleeve; reliability > fancy stuff, honestly. gl!
