I’m looking to grab a dedicated prime for street photography on my Sony A7III. I can’t decide if 35mm or 50mm is better for blending in. I need something lightweight with fast autofocus for quick shots. Between the Sony 35mm f/1.8 and the Samyang options, which one offers the best balance of size and sharpness?
for your situation, i've shot with both and technically, the Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 beats the Samyang AF 35mm f/1.8 FE on tracking speed cuz of the linear motor. 35mm is way more versatile than 50mm for street stuff. compared to the Sony FE 50mm f/1.8, the thirty-five is sharper wide open and way quieter. honestly, its the best balance your gonna find for a7iii street work. gl!
just stumbled upon this thread and honestly, while everyone is jumping on the sony train, the price difference between the Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 and the Samyang AF 35mm f/1.8 FE can be pretty huge. i’ve shot with both brands and the value prop changes a lot depending on what you actually need for your a7iii. before i give my two cents, what’s your actual budget for this lens? are you looking for the absolute best build quality, or is getting the best bang for your buck more important? also, do you find yourself shooting in rough weather often? i ask because weather sealing and long-term reliability are usually the biggest dividers between these two brands when it comes to real-world street work... let us know what you're thinking!
> Which one offers the best balance of size and sharpness? tbh just grab the Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 cuz its SUPER snappy for street and way more reliable than Samyang for quick tracking on your A7III... worth every penny imo
ok so i'm kinda new to the Sony system but I've been doing a ton of research on the technical specs and honestly... > I can’t decide if 35mm or 50mm is better for blending in. Basically, the 35mm focal length is the industry standard for street because it gives u more context than a 50mm, which can feel a bit tight sometimes. For your situation, I would suggest looking at the Sony FE 35mm f/1.8. I know the Samyang AF 35mm f/1.8 FE is cheaper and it's actually really sharp, but the Sony has that dual linear motor thing that makes it literally silent and SO fast... I'm really satisfied with how it handles on my Sony A7III. It’s like... super light and has that custom button which is highkey useful for eye-af. Anyway, the extra cost for the Sony is worth it for the build quality alone imo. peace 👍
