I've been shooting with primes lately, but I really need a versatile zoom for my Sony A7III to cover travel and events. I'm torn between the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 and the Tamron 28-75mm G2. Since I value sharpness and autofocus speed, which one would you recommend as the best do-it-all lens for a full-frame setup?
For your situation, the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 for Sony E is a decent option cuz it's lighter than the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art for Sony E, basically saving ur back.
Hey, i feel u, choosing between these two is lowkey a struggle. In my experience, I've tried many zooms and honestly it depends on how much you value that extra width at the wide end. I'm usually pretty cautious with the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art for Sony E because it is significantly heavier, which can be a literal pain during long travel days or weddings. Also, iirc some early batches had dust issues, so you gotta double check the weather sealing before committing. Here is basically what I recommend for your A7III:
Been thinking about this... Seconding the recommendation above!! Tbh the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 for Sony E is the better value move here. It’s way cheaper than the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art for Sony E and basically does the same job.
In my experience, Sigma is usually better for the wide end, but honestly I've had issues with build quality on those third-party zooms before... not as good as expected long-term. Quick reply: what's your absolute max budget?? Also, do you actually need that extra wide focal length for travel or is the 28mm starting point usually enough for you??
