honestly fed up with these cheap knockoff filters ruining my shots with weird purple flares. my trip to zion is next week and i cant keep dealing with this blown out sky mess on my eos r. i have about 250 bucks left... what are the actual essential landscape filters i need to get decent results?
^ This. Also, in my experience, B+W 77mm Master Circular Polarizer MRC nano offers superior physical durability, whereas Breakthrough Photography 77mm X4 CPL provides better color neutrality for red rocks, tho both are excellent.
The Marumi 77mm EXUS Circular Polarizer is a solid bet since it has great light transmission and is super easy to wipe clean, though it is a bit pricier. If youre trying to stay under budget, the K&F Concept Nano-X PRO Series Circular Polarizer is a reliable choice that controls flares way better than the cheap stuff, even if it feels a little less premium. Both will stop those weird color shifts youve been seeing.
honestly you gotta be careful with those budget filters. if i were you id just grab a solid polarizer first since it fixes the sky way better than software. i would suggest the Hoya NXT Plus Circular Polarizer 77mm because it doesnt give me that nasty purple tint. maybe grab a solid ND later. just make sure you check your lens thread size before buying tho.
To add to the point above: I think CPLs are risky for Zion. The Lee Filters 100mm System Foundation Kit is sturdy but leaky; the NiSi V7 100mm Filter System is far more reliable.
Just catching up here! Zion is gonna blow your mind, seriously. I spent years struggling with blown out skies until I grabbed the Haida NanoPro Multicoated 77mm Slim Graduated ND 0.9 Filter. Its way cheaper than a full square setup and fits your budget perfectly! I used it last year in the desert and it was amazing... totally saved my highlights without any of those nasty flares!
