I just picked up the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and I'm a bit nervous about the gimbal's durability during travel. I need something that fits the Creator Combo accessories, like the mic and tripod, without being too bulky. Do you prefer hard shells or compact pouches? Are there any specific brands you’ve found that offer the best protection?

For your situation, I totally get it—the gimbal on the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 feels so fragile when it's not powered on! Honestly, I was terrified of snapping it during my last trip. I would suggest staying away from soft pouches. They’re fine for scratches, but if ur bag gets squeezed in an overhead bin? Game over... basically a nightmare. Since you have the Creator Combo, you really need molded protection. Here's what I recommend based on what I've been using: - STARTRC Carrying Case for DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo - This is actually what I use daily. It has a hard EVA shell that feels super solid. What’s great is that it has specific molded slots for the transmitter, the tripod, and the battery handle. Everything stays put so nothing is clanking together, which is highkey my biggest fear. - PGYTECH Carrying Case for DJI Osmo Pocket 3 - If you want something that looks a bit more professional, this is fantastic. It’s got a really nice finish and the interior is soft but firm. It’s slightly more expensive, but the quality is top-tier and it fits the accessories perfectly.
- Sunnylife Hard Shell Carrying Case for DJI Osmo Pocket 3 - This is a bit more budget-friendly but still offers that rigid protection you need. Pretty good if you dont wanna spend a ton after already dropping money on the combo! I'd definitely go with the STARTRC one tho. It's the perfect balance of being compact while still feeling like a tank. Just make sure you always lock the gimbal head before putting it in!! I mean, you're gear is expensive, so dont risk it. peace

Check out STARTRC Carrying Case for DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo vs PGYTECH Carrying Case for DJI Osmo Pocket 3. Unfortunately, STARTRC felt cheap; basically PGYTECH is safer for the gimbal imo.

I am in the exact same situation with my DJI Osmo Pocket 3. The device works well and I am very satisfied with the footage quality, but the logistics of transporting the full kit without overspending on a case is a challenge. I have been analyzing the technical specifications and material density of various budget options to find the best value. My data comparison has been looking at:

  • Internal clearance for the gimbal head
  • High-density EVA foam vs standard foam inserts
  • Space efficiency for the DJI Mic 2 transmitter and battery handle I have noticed that some of the more affordable brands actually offer better impact resistance data than the expensive ones. It is quite satisfying to find technical parity at a lower price point, tho I am still weighing the options before committing. I just want to ensure the protection matches the investment without paying for a brand name.

Re: "Big if true" - it really is a massive factor when you start traveling more frequently. I completely agree with Lea regarding the EVA foam density. After years of shooting, I found that those pre-molded cases often leave too much wiggle room for my liking. I actually went the DIY route a while back and havent looked back since. Honestly, if you want peace of mind, just get any of the compact hard cases from Pelican or maybe Nanuk. You cant go wrong with their stuff. I buy the ones with the customizable foam inserts and just pluck out the exact shape for the Pocket 3 and the mic. Its very satisfying to have a perfect fit that doesnt shift at all during a flight. I am very happy with how it turned out and it works well for my workflow. No complaints here, it handles the pressure of a packed suitcase much better than any specialized soft shell could.

Great info, saved!

Curious about one thing: are you planning to toss this into a stuffed backpack or carry it solo? Honestly, I went for a cheap "safety" shell once and it was a total disaster... the dividers were so flimsy that the mic actually scratched my screen during a flight. Super disappointing. Basically learned that 'compact' doesn't always mean safe. Knowing your typical packing style would help a ton!
