Ive been flying drones since the OG Phantom 3 days so Im not exactly a newbie when it comes to the 180-degree shutter rule or anything, but man, the Air 3 is giving me some serious anxiety right now. I just picked it up because Ive got this high-stakes wedding gig in Cabo next month. Lots of bright sand and harsh midday sun and I really wanted that 70mm telephoto look for the ceremony shots.
But here is the thing. I bought a cheap-ish set of NDs off Amazon last week just to test them out and the results were honestly kind of a disaster. When I switch between the wide and the tele camera, the color cast is totally different. Like the wide looks okay but the 70mm gets this weird greenish tint that I cant even fix in post without it looking grainy. Plus Im seeing some slight vignetting on the tele lens which I didnt even think was possible with filters specifically made for this model.
I have about $150 left in my gear budget for this trip and I need something that actually stays neutral across both sensors. I cant afford to mess this up because the couple is paying for premium 4K delivery. Should I just bite the bullet and get the official DJI ones or is PolarPro or Freewell better for the dual-lens setup? Ive heard some people say Freewell has better polarizers but Im worried about the weight affecting the gimbal since its a bit more sensitive than my old Mavic 2 Pro. The wedding is in three weeks so Im kind of in a rush to get this sorted before I leave. Has anyone actually put these through their paces in bright coastal environments? Which set is actually going to give me consistent color across both focal lengths and stop that weird flickering Im getting on the telephoto side?
Just found this thread. I've shot in similar harsh light and matching the wide to the 70mm is always the hardest part. Quick question tho, are you using a CPL or just straight ND? That green tint usually means the polarizer is fighting the sensor.
To add to the point above: did you recalibrate? Im happy with DJI Air 3 ND Filters ND8/16/32/64 for gimbal safety, tho PolarPro Air 3 Cinema Series Shutter has better color but costs more.
Jumping in here because I unfortunately had similar issues with color shifts on my Air 3 using budget glass. It's really disappointing when the 70mm lens looks totally different from the wide. Before I give a final recommendation, are you shooting in D-Log M or just a standard profile?
