Just picked up the X-T5 and loving the image quality so far! Currently using the kit 18-55mm but looking to expand my lens collection. Mainly shoot landscapes, street photography, and some portraits. Budget is around $1000-1500 for my next lens. What are your must-have recommendations? Considering the 56mm f/1.2 for portraits and maybe the 10-24mm for landscapes. Any other hidden gems I should know about?

For general photography, the XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 is a versatile kit lens that's surprisingly sharp and well-built. If you want something more premium, the XF 16-80mm f/4 offers great range with consistent aperture and excellent image stabilization.

For portraits, the XF 56mm f/1.2 is legendary - it produces beautiful bokeh and tack-sharp images. The newer XF 33mm f/1.4 is also fantastic for environmental portraits with a more natural field of view.

For landscapes, consider the XF 10-24mm f/4 for ultra-wide shots, or the XF 16-55mm f/2.8 if you want a professional-grade standard zoom without compromising on aperture.

For everyday shooting, the XF 23mm f/2 or XF 35mm f/2 are compact, weather-sealed primes that deliver excellent image quality. The 23mm gives you a 35mm equivalent field of view, while the 35mm is closer to 50mm equivalent.

Budget-friendly options include the XC 15-45mm for travel or the XF 27mm f/2.8 pancake lens for ultra-portable setups.

What type of photography are you most interested in? That would help me give you more specific recommendations.

Quick reply while I'm thinking about it! I've been kinda obsessed with checking my shots at 100 percent zoom lately because that 40MP sensor on the X-T5 is SO intimidating for a beginner. I was really worried about spending a thousand dollars and ending up with blurry photos because I didnt know what I was doing. I actually spent a whole weekend doing my own tests by shooting a brick wall and some signs just to see how the focus holds up. What I found is that the lenses with the Linear Motor (LM) seem to be way more reliable for the X-T5. I tried the Fujifilm XF 23mm f/1.4 R LM WR and the autofocus felt way more locked in compared to the older glass I've borrowed. It gives me a lot more peace of mind. I also checked out the Fujifilm XF 18-120mm f/4 LM PZ WR because I like how it doesnt extend when you zoom. It feels safer and less fragile. Basically, Im learning that the performance of the autofocus motor matters just as much as the glass itself. If the lens is too slow to hit that high-res precision, the photo just looks soft. Does anyone else feel like the newer LM lenses are almost a requirement now?

Depends entirely on what you shoot! For portraits, you can't go wrong with the 56mm f/1.2 - the bokeh is absolutely dreamy and it's tack sharp wide open. Street photography? The 23mm f/2 is my go-to. It's small, fast to focus, and 35mm equivalent is perfect for environmental shots. The weather sealing is a nice bonus too if you're shooting in unpredictable conditions.

Just found this thread and it’s a lot to digest! You've already got some solid advice on focal lengths, basically covering everything from the tiny primes to the big professional zooms. Tbh, as someone who’s been shooting Fuji for years, I’ve learned that the most important thing for the X-T5 is choosing glass that can actually handle that high-res sensor over the long haul. From an experienced perspective, I’d suggest:
* Stick with first-party Fujifilm glass. You just can’t beat the native integration and reliability, especially for the autofocus system.
* Focus on the weather-sealed options. It’s worth the extra peace of mind if you're out shooting street or landscapes in unpredictable weather.
* Look at the professional-grade zooms from Fuji if you want a "one and done" solution that won't feel dated in a few years. Idk, maybe it’s just me being cautious, but I always prefer the long-term safety of native gear. Yeah, the initial investment is higher, but they tend to hold their value way better and you won't be worrying about compatibility issues down the road.

After a year with my X-T5, here are my top picks:

  1. XF 16-55mm f/2.8 - This is hands down the standard zoom with the very best in optical quality to cater to the 40MP image sensors in the X-T5. Yes, it's pricey, but the sharpness is incredible.

  2. XF 35mm f/1.4 - The best prime lens for the Fujifilm X-T5 is Fujifilm XF 35mm f/1.4 R, which is great lens for portraits and low-light photography with low exceptional sharpness and beautiful bokeh.

  3. XF 50-140mm f/2.8 - This 50-140mm lens delivers the same magnification through your viewfinder as a 70-200mm would on a full-frame camera. Perfect for portraits and sports, though it does push the X-T5's grip to its limits.

I've been using the X-T5 since launch and my most-used lenses are the 16-80mm f/4 and 70-300mm f/4-5.6. The 16-80 is criminally underrated - yes it's bigger than primes, but the convenience factor is huge and the image quality is excellent throughout the zoom range. The 70-300 is a beast for wildlife and sports. Both have fantastic stabilization that really shines with the X-T5's sensor.
