Hey fellow shooters! I’ve recently made the switch over to the Lumix S-series (specifically the S5IIX) and I am absolutely blown away by the internal recording capabilities and that phase hybrid AF. However, as I’m starting to build out my kit for more professional video work, I’ve hit a bit of a bottleneck with my ergonomics. Trying to mount a shotgun mic, a wireless transmitter, and my Atomos Ninja V directly to the hot shoe is getting sketchy, and I really need a solid cage to tie it all together and protect the body.

I’ve been browsing a few options online, but I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by the choices. I’ve used SmallRig in the past for my older GH5 setup, but I’ve heard great things about Tilta and even Kondor Blue lately. My main priority is a cage that offers a really snug fit without any "twist" or wiggle room, especially since these L-mount bodies are a bit heavier and beefier than my old MFT gear.

I have a few specific requirements I'm looking for. First, it absolutely needs to have a built-in NATO rail on at least the left side for my side handle. Second, I really want something with an integrated Arca-Swiss plate on the bottom so I can jump between my DJI RS3 Pro gimbal and my video tripod without constantly swapping plates. Finally, cable management is a big one—I’m terrified of snapping the HDMI port during a shoot, so a cage with a really secure cable clamp system is a must.

Does anyone here have hands-on experience with cages for the S5II, S1H, or the original S5? Are there any specific models that might block the battery door or make it hard to reach the top dials? I’m willing to spend a bit more for something truly "high-quality" that will last, rather than a budget option that feels flimsy or sharp on the hands.

What’s your go-to recommendation for a Lumix S-series cage that balances weight, protection, and accessory mounting points?

hey, I went through this last year when I first grabbed my S5II. I've been shooting for years but honestly, these modern cages still kinda confuse me... I'm always so worried about things being 'loose' or unsafe. I ended up going the budget route to save some cash for lenses, and here is what I found: 1. I got the SmallRig Camera Cage for Panasonic LUMIX S5 II / S5 IIX 4022 for around $60. It actually has two points of contact so there’s basically zero twist, which made me feel way better about the safety of the body. Just make sure you tighten that side screw really well!
2. I was terrified of the ports too, so I grabbed the SmallRig HDMI & USB-C Cable Clamp for LUMIX S5 II / S5 IIX 3637. It was only like $20 and it really locks those cables in place so you dont snap the board.
3. The bottom has the Arca-Swiss plate built-in, which helps me move from my sticks to my DJI gimbal in seconds. It feels pretty high-quality for the price, but be careful with the edges. Do you think the Tilta Full Camera Cage for Panasonic S5 II / S5 IIX is actually safer for the top dials? I'm always scared I'm missing out on real quality by going cheap lol... gl with the rig!! 👍

In my experience, switching from MFT to the beefier S-series is a huge jump in weight and I've been there with the sketchy hot shoe mounts... it's a nightmare. I've been shooting for years and unfortunately, some of the cheaper brands I tried early on were not as good as expected. One actually scratched my body cuz it didnt fit right, so annoying. For ur S5IIX, I would suggest going with Tilta. You basically cant go wrong with their ecosystem. - Their build quality is seriously solid with no wiggle.
- Most of their Lumix stuff has that built-in NATO rail you need.
- The cable clamps are actually secure, unlike some budget ones I've had issues with. Anyway, stick to a brand like Tilta or maybe Kondor Blue if you want that premium feel. I'm still learning the quirks of this new body... does anyone know if these cages block the top dial tho? gl!

This^ Also wanted to add, in my experience i think SmallRig is basically best value for NATO specs, even tho Kondor Blue was mentioned. There s5iix kits are highkey steady for ur budget... 👍

Honestly, looking at the current market, the gap between 'prosumer' and 'cinema-grade' cages has narrowed a ton, but the actual tolerances and how they handle torsion still vary way more than you'd think - basically, what works for a light setup might not cut it for a rigged-out S5IIX. Before I dive into a brand comparison for you, I’ve got a couple of questions to narrow down the market segment you should be looking at: 1. Are you planning on buying into a full proprietary ecosystem (where the handles and monitor mounts are brand-specific), or do you prefer a cage that acts as a 'neutral hub' for universal bits you already have? 2. Since you're on the RS3 Pro, are you prioritizing a super slim profile for easier balancing, or do you need a beefier base with more mounting points even if it adds some height to ur setup? Knowing where you stand on brand loyalty vs. modularity is key for picking the right one to go with.
