Hey! Looking for the best travel lens to pair with my new OM SYSTEM OM-1 II. Something versatile and relatively compact. I'm planning a trip with lots of hiking. My budget is around $1000. What's the sharpest, most useful zoom lens you'd recommend for general travel photography within that price range?
Big if true
My buddy told me the exact same thing last week. Guess he was right lol.
Congrats on the OM-1 II! For travel, I *love* my Olympus 12-45mm f/4 PRO. Seriously sharp across the frame, and weighs next to nothing (around 254g!). Perfect for hiking. I've taken some amazing landscapes with it. You won't be disappointed!
Forget max zoom. For hiking, consider the Olympus 12-45mm f/4 PRO. It's weather-sealed, super sharp, and the constant aperture simplifies exposure in tricky light. Check its MTF charts; you'll be impressed.
Hey! Consider a weatherproof Olympus 12-45mm f/4. It's compact, sharp, and better sealed against dust/moisture for safer hiking. Around $650. Is protecting your gear from the elements a big concern for you?
Don't overspend! The Olympus 12-200mm f/3.5-6.3 is surprisingly good for the price. I've had mine for 5 years; be careful of weather sealing though if hiking in wet conditions.
Skip the Olympus tax. Sigma's 18-50mm f/2.8 is consistently sharper and half the price of comparable M.Zuiko lenses. You'll thank me later. Street price ~$650.
