I recently upgraded to the Nikon Z6 ii and I am absolutely loving the image quality, but I am having a hard time deciding on a go-to lens for daily use. I do a mix of street photography, family shots, and travel, so I really need something versatile that does not weigh me down.

I have been eyeing the 24-120mm f/4 for the extra reach, but I am also curious about the 40mm f/2 because it is so compact and light for carrying around all day. I want to avoid carrying a massive bag of gear if possible. Do you find that a zoom or a small prime works better as a one-lens solution for this camera? What is your favorite everyday lens for the Z6 ii?

Ok so, I went through this a few years back with my Z6 ii. I bought the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S thinking it was the ULTIMATE lens, but unfortunately it just felt too bulky for street stuff. I tried the Nikon NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 and honestly, it made shooting way simpler, even if I still dont really get all the technical specs. The zoom has range, but the 40mm is basically weightless. Lesson learned: heavy gear is not as good as expected!

> I tried the Nikon NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 and honestly, it... This^ Also wanted to add that in my experience, choosing a lens is a trade-off between reach and weight. I've tried many setups, and if it's too heavy, you wont use it. I totally agree the Nikon NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2 is the king of value... it turns the camera into a point-and-shoot. But if youre gonna want zoom, check out the Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-75mm f/2.8. Its lighter, way cheaper (like $850), and great for street!

yo, i feel u on the lens struggle!! i have been shooting with the Z6 ii for years now and honestly, the choice depends on how much you value that reach vs weight. if you are on a budget, you gotta look at the price-to-performance ratio cuz glass gets expensive fast.

This is the ultimate travel beast. The constant f/4 is sharp across the frame, but itll set you back like $1,100 new. It is basically the best all-rounder, but it is kinda heavy for casual street walking.

Dude, just buy this anyway lol. It is only like $275 and literally weighs nothing. It is basically a pancake lens that makes your Z6 ii feel like a point-and-shoot. Perfect for family dinners where you dont wanna look like a pro photographer.

If you want a zoom but dont wanna drop a grand, look for this used. You can snag one for around $400 cuz so many people sell their kit lens. It is super compact when retracted. tbh, if you wanna save cash, go for the 40mm first. It is so cheap and fun to use. gl with the new setup!! cheers
