kinda freaking out cause I have a wedding shoot this saturday and my main lens just died on me. I’ve got the R6 and im stuck between three choices. my logic was to just bite the bullet on the RF 85mm 1.2L but man that price tag is scary for a last minute buy.

  • rf 85mm 1.2 (expensive but perfect?)
  • rf 85mm f2 (cheaper but is it enough?)
  • sigma 85mm 1.4 with adapter

im worried about the autofocus speed on the sigma vs native glass during the ceremony. budget is around $1500 but i can go higher if it’s actually worth the debt lol. which one would u pick for a fast turnaround?

Quick reply while I have a sec. Look, I am a big believer in gear reliability when professional reputation is on the line. I purchased the Canon RF 85mm f2 Macro IS STM as a compact alternative and I have been thoroughly satisfied with the results. The autofocus is consistent and the image stabilization works well for low-light ceremonies. Honestly, I have never had a client notice the difference in aperture, but I definitely noticed the weight savings during eight-hour days... dont let the lower price fool you. Quick tip: Mapping the control ring to ISO is a game changer for weddings where lighting shifts constantly. TL;DR: Buy the Canon RF 85mm f2 Macro IS STM. It is reliable, lightweight, and basically leaves you with cash in the bank while avoiding the stress of a massive debt.

Weddings are stressful enough without gear failing right before the big day. Honestly, I had a nightmare experience trying to use an adapted Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art for Canon EF at a ceremony last year. Unfortunately, the autofocus kept hunting for a split second too long during the kiss and I missed the shot... it was gut-wrenching. The adapter works fine for slow stuff, but I wouldnt trust it when you cant ask for a retake. I also tried the Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM but the focus motor was just not as good as expected for tracking people in dim halls. If youre shooting an R6, you should just bite the bullet. I caved and bought the Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM and while the price is scary, the reliability is worth it. Dont risk your reputation on an adapted setup. Just go with the 1.2L.
