So Ive been an avid Amazon shopper for like a decade now and I thought I had my system down to a science. Usually I just rely on CamelCamelCamel for the price history graphs and Honey for the gold points but honestly lately its been a total nightmare. Im currently trying to put together a whole new home office setup for my sister as a graduation gift—shes moving to Chicago in exactly twelve days—and I have about $1,200 to spend on the whole kit. Im talking dual monitors, a specific ergonomic chair, all the cable management stuff, and some lighting.

The problem is that prices on these specific items are bouncing up and down by like 15-20% every single day and my usual trackers are just not catching the dips in time. I keep getting emails from Camel like four hours after the price already went back up and by then the deal is dead. Its super frustrating because Im watching my budget shrink as I wait for the perfect time to hit buy. I tried using the built-in saved for later list in the Amazon cart but half the time it doesnt even notify me when something drops by ten bucks unless I manually refresh the page a hundred times a day which I dont have time for with my own job.

Ive tried a few things already:

  • CamelCamelCamel (too slow on notifications)
  • Honey (just keeps trying to find fake coupons that never work)
  • Distill Web Monitor (way too many false positives and a pain to set up the selectors)

I need something that actually monitors the cart live or at least checks way more frequently than these web-based scrapers. Is there a specific extension that anyone uses that is actually reliable for real-time or near real-time price monitoring? I heard some people mention Keepa but the interface looks like something from 2005 and I dont know if the paid tier is worth it just for a one-time project. Or maybe theres some obscure open-source thing on GitHub I should be looking at? Im tech-savvy enough to set up something more complex if it actually works. What extension are you guys using right now that actually pings your desktop the second a price drops in your cart?...

Ive been super satisfied with Keepa. Even if the UI looks like legacy software, the data granularity is solid and catches dips way faster than Camel. Just be careful with some scrapers tho; pinging Amazon too fast can get your IP shadowbanned or trigger endless captchas.

  • Keepa paid tier is king
  • Avoid mobile trackers Usually I just use Cart To Link to share the final build list once prices drop.

Unfortunately, its been a real struggle finding anything reliable lately because Amazon is constantly tightening their bot detection. I had issues with most extensions just serving cached data instead of live prices. Before I suggest any scripts, are you able to keep a computer running 24/7? Real-time monitoring usually requires a persistent connection that browser extensions struggle to maintain.

Just catching up on this thread and I totally get the frustration! Last year I spent weeks trying to snag a specific GPU and those legacy trackers failed me every single time... it was honestly such a nightmare watching the price jump while I was stuck at work. I have to disagree with the Keepa suggestion though, because paying for a subscription is a total waste of cash for a one-off gift project! You definitely dont need that bloat. If you want to keep everything organized while hunting, I love using this share amazon cart extension to manage the gift list. Just be super careful about your setup.

  • Avoid running more than one scraper at once or you'll get IP flagged
  • Dont use a VPN while checking prices or youll hit endless captchas
  • Stick to browser-based local monitors for the fastest pings Its amazing how much you can save when the pings are actually instant! Good luck with the office build, Chicago is gonna be fantastic for her.
