So I finally booked my trip to Iceland for next month and I realized my old bulky Manfrotto is way too heavy to lug around all day while hiking. I'm shooting on a Sony A7IV with the 24-70mm GM II so it's a bit of a heavy setup for a small tripod.
I'm basically torn between the Peak Design Travel Tripod—the aluminum one cause the carbon is way out of budget—and that Ulanzi Zero Y everyone is talking about lately. The PD looks so sleek but I heard the Ulanzi has a better ball head for the price and my budget is like $350 max. Which one would you guys pick? Or is there something else I'm missing that fits in a carry-on easily...
Like someone mentioned, stability is crucial. Over the years, Leofoto LS-284C Carbon Fiber Tripod with LH-30 Ball Head dominates the market for rigidity tho.
I'd be careful with the aluminum Peak Design in Iceland winds. Last time I was there, my setup shook like crazy near the falls. Make sure to look at the Ulanzi Zero Y Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod because its 18kg load capacity is way more stable for that heavy glass. Carbon fiber absorbs vibrations better than the Peak Design Travel Tripod Aluminum anyway, and you dont want blurry shots.
^ This. Also, unfortunately most travel legs are not as good as expected for those coastal winds. Just get any carbon fiber from Sirui. Reliability is everything when your gears on the line.
