I recently upgraded to a Sony A7IV and I love it, but my current tripod is way too bulky for the hiking trips I have planned this summer. I am looking for something that is super compact but can still handle the weight of my 24-70mm GM lens without slipping.
I have been looking at carbon fiber options to keep the weight down, ideally under 3 pounds, and it definitely needs to be Arca-Swiss compatible so I do not have to swap plates. My budget is around $350 to $450. Between Peak Design, Benro, or Leofoto, which one provides the best stability for a mirrorless setup in windy conditions?
For your situation, I would suggest being really cautious about going too thin with the legs. I've actually had some pretty bad experiences where my rig started swaying because the tripod was just too flimsy for a heavy lens like that 24-70mm GM. It's honestly frustrating when a setup feels unstable in even a light breeze. So, I really recommend the Benro Tortoise 24C Carbon Fiber Tripod with GX30 Ball Head. Since it lacks a center column, it's basically way stiffer and more reliable in the wind than typical travel designs. It weighs about 2.5 lbs, so it fits your hiking needs perfectly. Another solid choice is the Sirui AM-284 Carbon Fiber Tripod with K-20X Ball Head. It is super sturdy and fits the Arca-Swiss requirement without any issues. Just dont trust those tiny legs too much on a cliffside! gl
In my experience, you should definately grab the Leofoto LS-284C Carbon Fiber Tripod with LH-30 Ball Head. i think skipping the center column is way safer in the wind so your gear doesnt tip over, right? it handles that heavy 24-70mm GM way better than the Peak Design Travel Tripod Carbon Fiber which feels kinda sketchy in gusts. always check those weight limits tho! gl!
Big if true
Works great for me
