Hey! Getting a Canon 90D. What SD card write speed is recommended for decent 4K video recording? Budget around $50.
Honestly, what kind of 4K shooting are you planning to do??? Like, long continuous takes for events or just short b-roll clips? It makes a big difference for heat and stability. I'm always a bit paranoid about cards failing, so I've found a few DIY ways to keep things safe without needing pro recovery services later: * Check out the Samsung PRO Plus - it's usually well within that $50 budget and pretty reliable for DIY setups.
* Run a full format in-camera every single time you clear the card. * Use a PC utility like H2testw to verify the capacity and speed as soon as it arrives. Fakes are everywhere nowadays and can really ruin a shoot. Better to be safe than sorry tho.
SanDisk Extreme works for my 90D. Never had a 4K recording issue. Just my 2 cents!
For 90D 4K, aim for UHS-I U3 or V30 cards minimum. Unfortunately, some 'rated' cards don't deliver sustained write speeds. I had issues with SanDisk Ultra; not as good as expected. Test thoroughly! Lexar Professional cards often overperform; check real-world write speed tests online before buying. Sustained 60MB/s should be sufficient.
Don't overspend! For decent 4K, a SanDisk Extreme *should* be plenty. Aim for at least 60MB/s write speed; often find 64GB versions under $30! Happy shooting!
Don't risk losing footage! SanDisk Extreme Pro, V30 or better. Worth the peace of mind.
