I just blew my savings on the X-T5 and now I'm getting ads for a million things and its driving me crazy. I have a wedding to shoot in Seattle in two weeks and I'm stressing over the setup. I read that the official hand grip is a must-have but then others say just get a cheap thumb rest... it's so conflicting. Plus these 40MP files are huge and I dont know if my old SD cards will keep up or if I'm gonna hit a buffer wall. I've only got $200 left. What are the actual essential accessories I need to get through a long shoot without wasting money on junk?

tl;dr: Fast cards and power are the priority. I have been very satisfied with Lexar Professional 1800x SDXC UHS-II 128GB V60 cards. They handle those 40MP files perfectly with 180MB/s sustained write speeds. No buffer lag. You definitely need a spare Fujifilm NP-W235 Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery for a full day shoot though. Skip the grip. It wont save your shoot if you run out of juice or space mid-ceremony.

Agreeing with reply 2, V90 cards are mandatory tho. For reliability:

I have tested quite a few setups over the years and for the X-T5, you should skip the official grip. It's way too pricey.

Regarding what #2 said about testing setups, in my experience weddings are risky. Reminds me of a rainy day where:

  • my buddys gear fried
  • card failed Total disaster, anyway.
