I finally treated myself to the Panasonic GH6, and while the internal specs are incredible, I feel like I'm not quite squeezing every bit of quality out of it yet. I’m specifically looking for gear that will help level up my production value. I've already considered picking up a high-speed CFexpress Type B card to handle those heavy ProRes bitrates, but I'm on the fence about whether an external monitor like a Ninja V+ or a high-quality variable ND filter would make a bigger impact on my footage. My current budget is around $800. For those who have been using the GH6, what are the absolute 'must-have' accessories that actually improved your final video results?
Can you clarify ur lighting? Honestly, Tiffen 77mm Variable Neutral Density Filter (better motion) vs an external monitor (better focus)... the filter wins for quality. Im SO satisfied with that setup!!
In my experience, trying to max out the GH6 is a bit of a rabbit hole lol. Honestly, I spent a ton on the Atomos Ninja V+ 5.2" 8K HDMI H.265 Raw Recording Monitor and unfortunately, I had issues with the micro-HDMI connection constantly dropping... it was NOT as good as expected for the price. Heres what I recommend for your $800:
* PolarPro 77mm Variable ND Filter Peter McKinnon Edition II 6-9 Stop: Seriously, you need high quality glass to keep ur shutter speed right. Cheap ones ruin the GH6 sharpness.
* Samsung T7 Shield 2TB Portable SSD USB 3.2: Skip those overpriced CFexpress cards and mount this to your cage. It handles ProRes bitrates perfectly and saves you a ton of cash. Basically, the VND filter is gonna impact your final footage way more than a monitor. The internal 10-bit is already insane, so you dont really need the Ninja unless you want RAW. GL!
