honestly im so done with my current cheap tripod it literally started sagging during a shoot yesterday and i almost had a heart attack thinking my nikon was gonna hit the pavement. its so flimsy and just cant handle the weight of my 70-200mm lens. im really stressed because i have a wedding shoot in portland next weekend and i desperately need something that actually locks in place.

  • budget is around 300 bucks maybe a bit more if it really lasts
  • needs to be carbon fiber if possible cuz my back is killing me
  • must have a solid ball head that doesnt drift

what are you guys using that doesnt suck? i really need a reliable brand that wont give out on me mid-session...

Agree! ngl i love my Sirui AM-284 Carbon Fiber Tripod with K-20X Ball Head cuz it feels so safe tho...

  • Rock solid legs
  • Zero drift
  • Fantastic price!

Make sure to watch that 70-200mm weight. I had a ball head sag once and it was scary. Switching to the Vanguard Alta Pro 2+ 263CB 100 Carbon Fiber Tripod saved my sanity.

man i totally feel that anxiety. a few months back i was shooting some landscapes near a river and my old plastic tripod leg just snapped. i barely caught my d850 before it went for a swim so i get being stressed. for your budget you gotta be careful because cheap carbon fiber can sometimes be worse than heavy aluminum if the locks arent solid. i eventually went with the Vanguard VEO 3T+ 264CB Carbon Fiber Travel Tripod and it hasnt let me down yet. the ball head is surprisingly sturdy for the price but i still check the tension twice before letting go. quick tip tho... make sure you are using the tripod collar on that 70-200mm lens instead of mounting the camera body directly. if you mount by the camera the center of gravity is way off and even a pro tripod might drift or tip over. just take it slow and double check those locks before you walk away from the gear.
